Yes, both doors on all of our double door units are operable.
One door is designated as the active door (primary), and the other as the passive door (secondary):
- The active door is the main door used for everyday entry and exit. This is where the locking handleset is installed, including the latch and deadbolt. It functions just like a regular single door.
- The passive door remains securely closed during normal use. It is held in place with flush-mount slide bolts located at the top and bottom edges of the door. These slide bolts lock into the door frame and threshold to keep the passive door stationary.
When the active door is opened, you can easily access the flush bolts on the passive door. By manually releasing these bolts, the passive door can also be opened, creating a much wider entryway when needed — ideal for moving large furniture or creating a grander opening for guests.
This design provides the best of both worlds: the convenience of a single operable door for everyday use, along with the flexibility of fully opening both doors when necessary.
