Some customers have asked whether the black material visible near the glass on their door is caulk, glue, or even black ink.
This material is caulk sealant from the glass unit. During the manufacturing process, the insulated glass units are overpacked with black caulk sealant to ensure optimal sealing and long-term performance. This extra caulk helps protect against air and water infiltration, creating a more durable and energy-efficient door.
Occasionally, a small amount of this sealant can ooze out slightly around the edges of the glass. This is a normal part of the manufacturing process and is easily removed during finishing and installation preparation. It does not affect the structure, integrity, or cosmetic appearance of the door once properly finished.
We do not consider this a defect, either structurally or cosmetically. It is a common occurrence with high-quality insulated glass assemblies and part of ensuring a long-lasting, properly sealed unit.
If you need guidance on how to remove any minor caulk residue before finishing, our team is happy to assist.
