Thank you for choosing a Grand Entry Door. The finish you select plays an important role in the beauty and longevity of your door, and this guide will help you get started.
Below are the most common questions we receive about staining and finishing, along with clear answers and the key requirements you must follow to protect your warranty.
Frequently Asked Questions About Finishing
1. What stain brand or color should I use?
We often receive questions about stain colors and specific stain brands. While we appreciate the interest,
we are not able to recommend any particular products. This includes brands, colors, and any specific stain formulas. Instead, we provide general guidelines that outline the required properties a stain must have for proper performance and warranty protection. It is up to the customer to choose the brand and color that work best for their application.
The good news is that working with a local stain supplier or professional finisher offers real advantages. They can help you select products available in your area, recommend options suited to your regional climate, and guide you toward colors that complement your home’s style. This approach gives you the best chance of achieving the look you want with a finish that performs well over time.
2. Can you tell me the exact stain used on a door I saw in a photo?
We are not able to provide exact formulas, brands or color names. Many finishes were created by the customer or their contractor, and the same stain can appear different on each door due to wood tone and application.
3. What stain colors are acceptable for warranty coverage?
Light and mid tone stains are recommended because they cause less heat absorbtion. Dark and opaque stains, including black, absorb heat and can cause damage. Using dark colors will void the warranty.

Preparation

• Seal every exposed surface. This includes the top, bottom, side edges, and hardware cutouts.
• Use exterior grade products only. The finish must contain UV inhibitors. Interior products will void the warranty.
