How thick is the glass in your doors?

The thickness of the glass in our doors depends on the thickness of the door unit itself:

  • For our standard 1-3/4" thick door units, the glass is 5/8" thick.
  • For special order 2-1/4" thick door units, the glass is 1" thick.

All of the glass used in our doors is double-pane, insulated, Low-E, and tempered glass.

  • Double-pane construction means there are two layers of glass with an insulating space between them, providing better thermal performance and sound reduction compared to single-pane glass.
  • Insulated glass helps improve the door’s energy efficiency by reducing heat transfer, keeping your home more comfortable year-round.
  • Low-E (low emissivity) coating is applied to the glass to reflect heat and harmful UV rays while allowing natural light to enter, helping to protect your interior furnishings from fading.
  • Tempered glass is a safety glass that is significantly stronger than standard glass and, if broken, shatters into small, blunt pieces rather than sharp shards, reducing the risk of injury.

Our stock door units are 1-3/4" thick, which is the most common thickness for residential entry doors. However, if your project requires a heavier, more substantial feel or a custom specification, we offer 2-1/4" thick doors by special order. The thicker door option not only increases the overall presence and durability of the door but also accommodates a thicker, even more insulating glass unit.

If you have any questions about which door thickness and glass option is right for your project, our team is here to assist you.
