What type of handlesets are compatible with your doors?

Handleset Hardware Guide and Frequently Asked Questions

Before purchasing any handleset hardware, please review your order confirmation. In some cases, a handleset may have been purchased directly through us, and this will be clearly listed on your order confirmation. If your order confirmation does not list handleset hardware, it means hardware was not included with your door.

This guide is for customers who did not purchase hardware with their door and need help understanding which types of handlesets are compatible with the preparation selected at the time of order.

Before contacting us, please review your order confirmation and this guide in full. Everything needed to purchase your handlesets can be found in these materials, and they serve as a complete reference for you and your hardware supplier.

What Information Do I Need to Order Hardware

Your order confirmation will list the details required to select the correct handleset. These typically include and will be noted on your order.

• Door thickness (standard is 1-3/4")

• Door swing

• Handleset prep option chosen for your door

Handleset Prep Options

Your door was ordered with one of the three preparation types below. Check your order confirmation to see which one applies.

1. No Handleset Prep

• The door will arrive with no holes or preparation for hardware.

• Your installer or contractor will prep the door onsite based on the handleset you choose.

• No additional details are required from us for this option.

2. Standard Double Bore Prep

This works with typical tubular style handlesets sold at hardware stores and online. This setup fits most off the shelf latch and deadbolt combinations.Brands such as Kwikset, Schlage, Emtek, and Baldwin are often compatible.

We prep the active door with the industry standard double bore:

• Two holes at 2-1/8" in diameter

• 2-3/8" backset

• Holes spaced 5-1/2" center-to-center

For double doors, typically only the active door is prepped. If you want a dummy handleset for the passive door, requirements vary by brand. Some dummy sets need two bores, some need one, and some attach with wood screws only. Any prep for the passive door must be done onsite according to the hardware you select.

3. Multipoint Locking System

This option is for doors ordered with a multipoint locking mechanism installed. The mechanism is designed for an American style cylinder placed above the lever, with a center to center spacing of 3 and five eighths inches. This matches Emtek’s Door Configuration 2. Emtek is the most common choice.

Handleset requirements for single doors and active doors on double units include:

• Lever style handlesets

• Keyed with American cylinder

• Handing must match your order

For passive doors on double units:

• Order a dummy pair

• Handing will be opposite the active door

Electronic handlesets and thumb latch handlesets are not compatible, since neither can provide the mechanical force needed to operate the multipoint mechanism. Only lever style handles will function properly.

Many customers purchase compatible multipoint handlesets from ccbrass.com, which carries Emtek options that match Door Configuration 2. We are not affiliated with this retailer. Any questions about finishes, models, or availability should be directed to your chosen hardware supplier.
